What is PNG?

Portable Network Graphics (PNG) is a raster graphics file format that supports lossless data compression. It was created as an improved, non-patented replacement for Graphics Interchange Format (GIF). PNG files are widely used on the internet due to their ability to support transparency, which allows for images with varying levels of opacity.

Transparency in PNG

Transparency in PNG images allows for parts of the image to be fully or partially transparent, meaning that the background behind the image can show through.
